STELLAN ARVIDSSON HYVING
Chair person
Stellan grew up in Liberia and has worked with learning, education, public education and development all his life. He has a PhD in pedagogy from Stockholm University with a focus on leadership and organizational pedagogy. For the past 20+ years, he has worked with support for education and research within international development cooperation, including for Sida in Tanzania, Afghanistan, South Sudan but also globally and regionally in Africa.

ELISABETH SANDLUND
Board member
Elisabeth is a journalist, author and lecturer. Since 2007 she has worked as editor-in-chief, publisher, editorial writer and opinion editor at the Christian newspaper Dagen. She has previously been a business journalist at Svenska Dagbladet and editorial director at Kyrkans Tidning. She is the author of the book Drabbad av det oväntad

CAMILLA BERNER
Board member
Camilla has a teacher training and has mostly worked in Swedish for immigrants with study path one, the students who have come to Sweden with the shortest school background. She now works in adult education in the city of Stockholm.

THOMAZ CARLZON
Board member
Thomaz has over 30 years of experience working with humanitarian aid and disaster relief in conflict situations, coordination of relief efforts in natural disasters, resilience-supporting efforts and aid in peacetime. This by working with the Swedish Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He held the position of Head of Disaster Risk Management in the Department for Disaster and Crisis Prevention, Response and Recovery at the IFRC's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In addition, for six years for the ICRC as a cooperation delegate for Central Europe from the regional office in Budapest and in Sri Lanka during the active conflict in the country. Within the Swedish Red Cross (SKR), Thomaz has had the role of senior advisor. In the 80s, he was chairman of nurses in cancer care and later active in the Red Cross's local organization in Solna.

PEROLOF LUNDKVIST
Suppleant
Perolof is a nurse and theologian. In addition to this, he has a university education in management and leadership. Perolof has always had an interest in stimulating personal development and a curiosity for new knowledge and experiences. This led, among other things, to a Master's degree in the field of adult learning. Perolof has international experience from working in Central Africa for 10 years, and 3 years in Haiti, primarily as a project coordinator and manager for humanitarian aid and development organizations. He has worked in a psychosocial team for disaster response efforts.

ANNA GUNTERBERG
Board member, vice chairman
Anna has worked with international aid within civil society at My Right and Afrikagrupperna. She has worked with international cooperation at the statistical authority SCB, which has given her a broad perspective from both the state sector and civil society. Gender equality, democracy, human rights and strengthening people's empowerment are something she is passionate about, and has worked for in different ways in her various roles.

MARIA REMSTAM
Board member
Maria is a lawyer and has a master's degree in environmental strategic management. Maria has had a great interest in African countries since childhood. During her education, she lived in South Africa for two periods. Languages are a passion for Maria. She has held positions on several different boards in non-profit associations, including as treasurer with responsibility for accounting and budget. She also has experience from recruitment processes

MARIA WÅHLIN
Board member
Maria has a master's degree in social anthropology. She has extensive experience in international development cooperation and peacebuilding efforts. Since 2022, Maria has been regional director for the Swedish Medical Mission in Latin America. Before that, she worked at PMU as an administrator and later also as a thematic advisor in democracy, peace and conflict. An important task has been to strengthen organizations' ability to work with learning, rights and participation.

MARGARETA MÖRLING
Board member
Margareta's interest in literacy was sparked during the 13 years that she and her husband worked in Egypt. She has worked as a teacher for illiterate students for over 25 years, both at SFI in Tensta and Rinkeby, and for newly arrived illiterate young people at IVIK high school in Stockholm.
Margareta is a teaching materials author and has written several teaching materials specifically for the category of illiterate students at Natur & Kultur. She has lectured for many years, primarily to teachers, on topics such as literacy and cultural adaptation. She has held theme days and courses in teaching the illiterate and the poorly educated. Margareta has also been responsible for diaconal work within the Evangelical Free Church for a few years.

ALMA RÖNQUIST
Suppleant
Alma is studying for a master's degree in economics at Stockholm University and has a degree from the Bachelor's degree program in Politics at Uppsala University. She has a great interest in development issues and therefore did an internship at Statistics Sweden's section for international development cooperation. In parallel with the internship, she took a project management course in collaboration with NIRAS Sweden at Sida.Most of Alma's childhood was spent in South Africa and Kenya. After completing her studies, she strives to work on issues that promote human rights, democracy and sustainable development.

Advisory Board
The ALEF Advisory Board is a group of expert advisors on adult learning in development co-operation. The role of this group is to provide advice and network contacts to ensure that ALEF's approach is documented, researched, recognised and used by a wider range of stakeholders. They will assist in updating ALEF on global trends in mother tongue-based adult learning in development, and identify key actors, trends and networks that ALEF needs to be aware of.
The Board is composed of:
Katy Newell-Jones, Consultant in Global Education and Development Co-operation. PhD Ecology and Development, University of East Anglia. National Teaching Fellowship, UK Higher Education Academy. Past President of the British Association for Literacy in Development, BALID.
Carol Benson, Education Specialist specialising in multilingualism and minority languages. PhD in Social Work and Comparative Education, University of California, Los Angeles.
Barbara Trudell, Director SIL Africa Learning & Development. PhD international education, University of Edinburgh.
